DELF or Certificate of French Language Studies
The Ministry of National Education of France has developed a certification,the DELF - Diplôme d’Etude en Langue Française, that is aligned with the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Recognized by the 27 countries of the EU, this framework facilitates the free movement of labor within the EU.
The examinations for the DELF and DALF certificates are held in more than 1,000 exam centers in 164 countries. There are 6 independent certificates which correspond to the six levels of the CEFR.

For each level, 4 sets of skills are evaluated: speaking, listening comprehension, reading and writing.
What are these certificates good for ?
The DELF certificates are a way for parents to regularly evaluate the level of French language mastery of their children. It validates and recognizes their progress and could motivate the students during their early years of learning French.
Children and adults who live outside of France and pass a DELF certification can have their level recognized to enroll in a French university.
